Two men were killed in a clash over establishing dominance in the river island area of Narsingdi.
The clash, which took place in the Bogargot village on Thursday, resulted in the deaths of Anwar Ali, 35, and Motalib Mia, 45.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Narsingdi’s Additional Superintendent of Police Shahriar Alam said: “Local residents Kamal Mia and Bachchu Mia were engaged in a long-standing dispute in the village.
“A supporter of Bachchu Mia had died during a clash which took place long ago. In a case filed against supporters of Kamal Mia over that death, a local court sent 13 people to jail on Wednesday as part of the trial process.”
The police official continued: “Following the court move, supporters of both Kamal and Bachchu engaged in an armed clash on Thursday, leaving 11 people injured. Among them, Anwar Ali died while under treatment at the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.”
Shafiq Mia and Motalib Mia were taken to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated. Motalib died at a private hospital in Dhaka later the same day.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further bloodshed.
