The suspension followed the mass resignation of 56 teachers in protest of the unruly acts committed by Chhatra League leaders
Authorities of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University have suspended five Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders of the university unit on charges of misbehaving with teachers.
The decision was made at a board meeting held on Monday evening, said a university official.
The suspended Chhatra League leaders are President Sajib Talukdar; Vice-Presidents Md Imran Mia and Adrita Panna; Joint General Secretaries Zabir Iqbal and Yasir Arafat.
The authorities took the action following the mass resignation of 56 of the university’s teachers in protest of the unruly acts committed by Chhatra League leaders.
The teachers, including: two Regent Board members, four deans, four provosts, 14 department chairpersons, and all house tutors and assistant provosts, submitted their resignations to Registrar Prof Touhidul Islam.
According to sources at the university, a group of Chhatra League men of the university unit, led by President Sajib Talukdar, forced teachers of the quantum mechanics department to allow an underperforming student to sit for an ongoing exam on Sunday.
When the teachers refused, the unruly group harassed and threatened them with violence. The Chhatra League members then stood guard around the student until she finished and submitted her exam paper.
