A local Sramik League leader has been allegedly stabbed to death by his rivals in Gazipur.
The incident took place near the Government Primary School in Koroitola of the municipality area around 10am on Thursday.
The deceased- Faruk Hossain, 26, was organizing secretary of Gazipur's Sreepur municipality unit of Sramik League.
Faruk's uncle- Sreepur upazila Chhatra League General Secretary Rakibul Hasan told the Dhaka Tribune: "Local men named Sumon, Babul and a group of their associates blocked his way when Faruk was going to work around 9am.
He was forcefully taken to Koroitola bazar and stabbed brutally in public with rods, machete, cleaver and knives, severing both hands from his body."
On information, his family members arrived at the scene and took him to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
The on-duty Doctor Tasnia Masnaz said: "His father brought him to the hospital carrying both his dismembered hands in a plastic bag. However, he died on the way."
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jabedul Islam said: "Two sub-inspectors (SI) were sent to the scene. We are still trying to arrest the accused."
