Five people from the same family have sustained severe burn injuries in a gas pipeline explosion in the Jamgora Molla Bazar area of Ashulia in Savar.
The accident occurred on Friday morning. The injured are: Arab Ali, 50, his wife Hasina Begum, 40, son Abdur Rouf, 25, Rouf's wife Ripa, 20, and their daughter Ayesha Moni, 2.
The injured have been rescued and admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
According to Ripa's sister Ayesha Begum, around 7am on Friday, Hasina went to cook in the kitchen of the house they occupy in the Jamgora Molla Bazar area. At that time, when she ignited the stove, the gas pipeline exploded due to a leakage.
The fire spread around the whole house rapidly and burned the other family members, Ayesha said. Later, they were rescued and admitted to the hospital.
Confirming the incident to the Dhaka Tribune, Ashulia police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Jabed Masud said after receiving the information, police went to investigate the situation.
