Hundreds of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway
Hundreds of passengers have been stuck in a 5km tailback stretching from Daudkandi toll plaza to Shaheednagar on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The tailback, which began on Friday, has persisted until this report was filed on Saturday at noon, reports UNB.
Several hundred vehicles are currently stranded on both sides of the highway.
The tailback formed when vehicles had to move slowly due to an increased number of cargo trucks leaving the Chittagong port following the transport workers' strike, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway police station.
The OC attributed gridlock, originating from Meghna Bridge in Munshiganj, as another cause for the tailback on the highway.
The highway police are trying to get the situation under control, he added.
