Robbers make away with about Tk20 lakh worth of valuables

A group of armed robbers have looted the house of a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s district unit in Madaripur Sadar upazila.

The incident took place at the home of Madaripur Chhatra League unit’s General Secretary Abir Mahmud Tanvir at Balia of Mostafapur union around 3am on Saturday.

Abir claimed that the robbers had made away with Tk20 lakh worth of valuables, including cash, jewelries and mobile phones.

Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamrul Islam said they were informed about the robbery and investigating.

He said police visited the crime scene right after the incident in the early hours.

According to Abir, at least eight to 10 masked robbers broke into their home through a window around 3am and took everyone hostage at gunpoint.

They fled after looting the valuables, including 31 bhori of gold jewelleries (One bhori = 11.664g) and Tk12 lakh in cash, from three almirahs and seven mobile phones from the family members.
