RAB detains 10 pirates from Maheshkhali

RAB also seized six guns and 37 rounds of bullets from the scene

RAB-7 has detained 10 pirates during a drive on the Bay of Bengal channel that falls under Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar.

They were detained in the early hours of Monday. The pirates are: Abdul Gofur, 22, Saiful Islam, 28, Md Tareq, 30, Abul Hossain, 25, Sayedul Islam, 35, Md Karim, 25, Taher Mia, 25, Md Jewel, 26, Nurul Haque, 32, and Sirajul Islam, 45.

RAB also seized six guns and 37 rounds of bullets from the scene. 

Cox's Bazar RAB-7 Commander Maj Gen Mehedi Hasan told the Dhaka Tribune: "A source told us that some pirates were attacking a fishing trawler on the stretch of Bay of Bengal that falls under Maheshkhali area. We went to conduct a drive in the area in the early hours of Monday.

"There, we detained 10 pirates, and recovered six guns and 37 rounds of bullets," he said. 

RAB also rescued three fishers during the mission, Mehedi said. The detainees are undergoing primary interrogations and will be handed over to Cox's Bazar Sadar police station afterwards.
