On October 21, a Chittagong court sent Khasru to jail in a case filed under the ICT Act
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been freed from jail, on bail, in a case filed under the ICT Act.
He walked out of Chittagong Central Jail around 7am on Monday, said Prasanta Kumar Bonik, senior superintendent of the jail.
"We received papers regarding his bail order from the High Court on Sunday. He was released from jail once we scrutinized the documents," Prasanta said.
Previously, on November 4, the High Court granted Khasru bail in the case.
On October 21, a Chittagong court sent Khasru to jail in the case.
Chittagong city unit Bangladesh Chhatra League’s acting general secretary Zakaria Dastagir filed the case – under sections 57 (2) of ICT Act and 15 (3) of the Special Powers Act – at the Kotwali police station on August 4.
The case was filed after a reported audio clip of a telephone conversation, between the BNP leader and an unidentified person, called for intensifying a nationwide protest about road safety—triggered by the death of two college students in Dhaka.
The conversation went viral on Facebook and YouTube.
