A teacher of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been dismissed on charge of sexual harassment on Saturday by the university authorities.
Various members of SUST’s syndicate, requesting anonymity, confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune, adding that the teacher, an assistant professor of the economics department, was found guilty of the charge.
No university official, however, wanted to speak on the record.
They also said a complaint was initially filed on October 15 by the victim. Following the allegation, the economics teacher was removed from his duties as assistant proctor and subject to further investigation.
After the allegation was found to be true, a decision was made during the university syndicate’s 211th meeting to remove him from his post.
The syndicate also recommended to suspended victim student for two years.
Another decision taken during the meeting was not to recommend Masud Sarker, an assistant professor of SUST’s political studies department, for promotion in the next four years due to signature forgery.
