A grenade was found from the Jamuna River while sand dredging was going on.
Police recovered the grenade from Birampur upazila’s Shaishal village on Thursday.
A tractor driver named Ripon found the grenade while he was dredging sand from the river. He informed his owner Mabud, who later called the police.
Birampur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Majidul Islam said: “We were informed about the grenade over phone by a man named Mabud on Thursday morning.
“Later, police went to the spot and recovered the grenade and brought it back to the station.”
“The grenade has ‘1968’ embossed on it. We think it is from the 1971 Liberation War period,” the SI said.
