Police dispersed RMG workers on Hemayetpur-Tannery Road
Twenty-five people have been injured in a clash between police and ready-made garment (RMG) industry workers in Savar.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning; the third day of RMG workers’ protests demanding changes to a new wage structure.
The workers of five factories—including Shams Styling Wears Ltd of Standard Group, and TCL-2—in the Hemayetpur area, are demonstrating.
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the protesting workers, injuring both RMG workers and members of law enforcement.

Dhaka 1 Ashulia Industrial Police Director Sana Saminur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “The workers hurled stones at us. So, we charged batons, and fired tear gas to disperse them.”
Talking about the chase and counter-chase between police and RMG workers in Ashulia’s Kathgora, he said: “We have deployed additional police in front of the factories to avoid untoward situations.”
The workers said they have informed the owners about salary discrimination in their new wage structure, on several occasions. Once the owners did not respond to their calls, they took to the streets and blocked Hemayetpur-Tannery Road.
