RAB detains six alleged thieves at Gazipur
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained six people, including a jewellery shop owner, who are members of an inter-district “robbery gang”.
The suspects were detained at different areas of Gazipur in the early hours of Friday.
The detainee Prodip Poddar, 41—also the gang leader—has a jewellery shop at Aftab Plaza in Tongi.
The rest of the gang members are: Dulal Hossain, 30; Md Rasel, 22; Zakir Hossain, 26; Kokila Begum alias Prerona; and Hajera Begum alias Azan.
RAB also seized 62.75 grams of gold ornaments, four mobile phones, and Tk11,000 in cash from them.
Confirming the matter at a press briefing on Friday, RAB 1 Commanding Officer Sarwar Bin Quasem said: “Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a raid in different areas of Gazipur and detained the suspects.
“Among those held, Prodip is the gang leader and a drug abuser. He used to buy the ill-gotten gold from the gang at a cheaper rate and then resell it.
“Prodip also bailed out his gang members when they were arrested, and supported them financially.”
RAB sources said legal action will be taken against these suspects.
