The identities of the deceased could not be immediately discerned
The bodies of two suspected cattle thieves were recovered by police from Kaliakair in Gazipur around 11am on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased could not be immediately discerned. Police said they appear to have been in their twenties.
Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alamgir Hossain Majumdar said: “The miscreants stole six cows and loaded them onto a truck from the houses of Shahjahan and Mohon Ali in Nowla village.”
“Later, they went to steal cattle from the house of one Samad Ali in nearby Bariabaho village. His neighbours noticed suspicious activity and yelled for help,” he said.
The OC said an awareness announcement about the incident was made via the local mosque microphone shortly after the miscreants were spotted. An angry mob chased down two of the cattle thieves while the others got away.
The miscreants died from the mob beating that followed their capture. Their bodies were recovered by police and sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur for post-mortem.
