A Union Parishad (UP) member of Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila was arrested by police in the early hours of Saturday on charges pertaining to drugs.
She was in possession of 15 small packets of heroin at the time of the arrest.
Bachhiran Nessa, 40, is a reserve seat UP member of Baheratoil Union’s ward 4, 5 and 6. Police arrested her from the Boga Protima area in the union.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Bachhiran Nessa, who has been accused in multiple drug-related cases.
Sakhipur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Omar Faruque filed a case against her as the plaintiff.
Previously on Friday afternoon, police detained Shipon, 42, who allegedly purchased drugs from Bachhiran Nessa.
Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amir Hossain said: “She has been involved with the drug trade for a while now.”
“The police confiscated heroin and cash during the arrest. We have already filed a case regarding the matter.”
The OC said she was sent to a court in Tangail on Saturday morning. Her husband Sanowar Hossain is also in jail for drug cases.
