BIWTA launches hotline to receive complaints

The service is available to citizens, around-the-clock, every day

Update : 12 Feb 2019, 12:25 PM

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has launched a 24-hour hotline to help stop passenger harassment at river ports; and to record complaints about pollution and illegal grabbing of rivers.

Anyone can reach the hotline at 013-040-04003 and 013-040-04006 to have their grievances and complaints heard regarding the illegal occupation and pollution of the Buriganga, Turag and Bali rivers, reports UNB.

The service, launched on Monday night, is now available to citizens 24/7, said a press release issued Tuesday.

Previously, on February 2, the High Court ruled that river encroachers cannot run in elections or get bank loans; in an effort to save rivers from greedy grabbers.

The court also ordered the government to make a list of every encroacher in the country, and publish the list in the media to expose the criminals to the public.
