Road maintenance irregularities reported in Sunamganj

Numerous citizens of the Dowarabazar upazila take this important route to commute between Sunamganj, Dowarabazar, Chatak and Sylhet

Allegations have surfaced over irregularities in the reconstruction of the Banglabazar-Haquenagarbazar Road under the Dowarabazar upazila.

Locals have brought up complaints regarding the use of inferior quality construction material and poor construction work because of the lack of supervision.

The project costing Tk4 crore 50 lakh was undertaken by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in March 2018 and was scheduled to be completed by March 2019.

However the project Contractor Nurul Islam denied the allegations and said the reconstruction project was being conducted in line with guidelines set by the LGED.

Dowarabazar upazila LGED Engineer Harjit Sarkar said: “The construction site has been visited and letters have been sent to concerned authorities regarding the matter. LGED will not tolerate the use of inferior quality materials.”
