5 killed in Kurigram-Rangpur highway accident

Five people have been killed and 7 injured as a bus collided with a three-wheeler on the Kurigram-Rangpur highway in Lalmonirhat.

The accident took place in Borobari area around 10pm on Tuesday, confirmed Kurigram Additional Superintendent of Police Minhajul Islam and Civil Surgeon Dr Aminul Islam. 

The injured are undergoing treatment at Kurigram General Hospital.

According to police and locals, a Dhaka-bound Himel Paribahan bus collided head-on with a Kurigram-bound three-wheeler in Borobari area, leaving three dead on the spot.

Nine injured victims were taken to Kurigram Sadar Hospital, where two more people died of their injuries. The remaining seven injured victims were then shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, as the condition of two among them was critical.

Police sources said the victims hailed from different upazilas of Kurigram, but they have yet to be identified.
