Two people have been killed after being struck by lightning in the Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban districts.
In Cox’s Bazar, a schoolboy has been struck dead by lightning in Maheshkhali upazila.
The incident occurred in the Keruntali area of Hoyanak union, in the upazila, around 9:30am on Monday.
The deceased, Mohammad Rajib, 12—son of Mohammad Mufizul Alam—was a grade 6 student of Abdul Mabud Chowduary High School.
Maheshkhali police station Officer-in-Charge Probhash Chandra Dhar told the Dhaka Tribune: "Rajib was on his way to the Lobonmath area with his father when a downpour and lightning began.
"Rajib was struck by lightning during this time, leaving him dead. His body is with his family."
In Bandarban, a woman has been killed, and three others have been injured, after being struck by lightning in Naikhongchhari upazila.
The incident occurred at Dakshin Baishari village on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jannat Ara, 23, daughter-in-law of Ali Akbar. Ali Akbar’s wife Mariam Begum, 50; son Ershad Ullah, 30; and daughter-in-law Asma Begum, 22, were injured in the lighting strike.
Confirming the matter, AKM Habibul Islam—officer-in-charge of the police investigation centre in Baishari—said the incident took place when four members of the Ali Akber’s family were working in their house's yard. When the lighting struck, one person died on the spot, leaving three others injured.
