A hoax letter issued under the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) name has sowed seeds of chaos among teachers in Barisal schools.

Copies of the letter were sent to scores of government and private schools in Barisal, calling for an end to coaching businesses. Other copies were also sent to education offices, the divisional commissioner, and the education secretary.

The letter, sent by post, asked to schools to stop facilitating coaching centres and rein in exorbitant tuition fees for admissions and exams.

Officials said the letter bears the signature of a divisional ACC director.

A number of teachers had rushed to meet with the director of the Barisal unit of the ACC,

Brother Samuel Sabuj Bala, principal of Barisal Udayan School, said he met with the Barisal ACC director who denied having any knowledge of the letter.

Mahbuba Hossain, principal of Barisal Government Girls School, also confirmed receiving the letter and informed the deputy commissioner of that. She said that after speaking to other institutions and authorities, the letter seems to be a fake.

Zulfiqar Ali, director of Barisal ACC, said he will look into the matter of the letter in due time.
