Locals caught the five and took them to Nishanbaria Union Parishad
Police have detained five Pirojpur youths while they were fleeing a residence they had allegedly robbed in Bagerhat.
Locals detained them at the Care Bazar area of Nishanbaria union of Bagerhat's Morrelganj upazila at 5am on Saturday, and took them to Nishanbaria Union Parishad.
Later, the Nishanbaria Union Chairman Abdur Rahim Bachchu, Morrelganj police station Sub Inspector Monir Hossain handed the five youths to Sarankhola police station around 8:30am.
The detainees are: Babu, 22, Abdur Rahim Khan, 21, Sagor, 26, Babul, 25, and Mehedi Hasan, 27; they all hail from Pirojpur.
Locals said they were captured while attempting a get-away from the residence of a local businessman— named Bulbul Hawladar of Sarankhola upazila's Dhansagar village—they had allegedly robbed.
Bulbul told the Dhaka Tribune: "The robbers broke into my house around 2am. They covered my mouth and held me at gunpoint while stealing cash and objects worth around Tk3 lakh, including gold ornaments."
Sarankhola police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dilip Kumar Sarkar said: "We preparing to file a case against the detainees."
