Case filed against policeman over rape in Bagerhat

A case has been filed against Nadim Mahmud Sourov, a 22-year-old policeman attached to Khulna District Police, and his parents over the alleged rape of a college girl in Bagerhat Sadar upazila.

The victim's mother started the case against Nadim, his father Abdul Halim Morol and mother Tahmina Begum at Bagerhat model police station on Wednesday night.

The police station's Officer-in-Charge Md Mahtab Uddin confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. "Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation," he added.

The victim is receiving treatment at the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.

According to case details, Nadim and the girl were returning from an event together on March 3, when he raped her in a garden near her residence.

The next day, the girl went to Nadim’s residence, demanding they marry. In response, she was beaten by his parents and forced to drink poison.

However, Nadim's father Halim Morol denied all allegations and claimed a particular group was trying to instigate the girl's family to frame his son and his family.

"We have been falsely accused. A third party is trying to serve their own interests here. They are after my fish enclosure," he alleged.
