The accused has confessed to committing the murder, but the motive is not clear yet
Police arrested a man in Manikganj sadar upazila on Monday for killing his elderly father. The motive behind the murder is still unknown.
The incident took place between Sunday night and early Monday morning, police said.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Manikganj sadar police station OC Rakibuzzaman said Anwar Hossain, 80, lived in his house with his only son Tanzim Hasan, 28, in Gultia village under the sadar upazila.
The duo had no other family members; they lived by themselves. Anwar had been a paralysis patient for 10 years, and Tanzim used to take care of him, the OC said.
On Sunday, the father-son duo had a normal day and went to sleep after dinner as usual.
On Monday morning, one of their neighbours found the main door wide open. When she went in to check, she found Anwar’s bloodied body lying on his bed.
Not seeing Tanzim in the house, she notified other neighbours, the OC said.
Around 11am, Tanzim was found unconscious on the side of a road in the nearby Dautia village by the locals, who notified the police.
OC Rakibuzzaman said Tanzim confessed to committing patricide during primary interrogation. Police are working to find out the motive.
Police also found a bloodied knife in Anwar’s house. The dead body was sent to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
