Police, however, manage to take control of the situation quickly
A group of Qawmi madrasa students have attacked and thwarted a program of the World Sunni Movement, Bangladesh in Brahmanbaria.
The incident took place in front of the Brahmanbaria Press Club around 12pm on Monday, police and witnesses said.
The Sunni organization had organized a human chain there, like they did in Dhaka and other places, demanding a state holiday on the occasion of Eid-e-Meraj Sharif or Eid-e-Merajunnabi.
At one point, the Qawmi madrasa students — wielding sticks and stones — attacked those who were attending the human chain. They also tore apart the banners and festoons of the Sunni organization members.
After receiving news of the scuffle, Sadar police personnel arrived at the scene and took control of the situation quickly by dispersing the madrasa students and sending them back.
Brahmanbaria Qawmi Islami Chhatra Oikya Parishad President Maulana Masudur Rahman said: “Those who flout Islamic norms observe Eid-e-Merajunnabi. We will not let something like that happen in Brahmanbaria.
“That’s why we have prevented them [World Sunni Movement, Bangladesh].”
