A motorcyclist has been hacked to death in Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi, Barisal.

The deceased was identified as Saidul Islam Talukder, confirmed Nalchity police station OC Shakhawat Hossain.

Nalchity police sources said Kabir Hossain, union parishad chairman of Mollarhat, has been brought in for inquiry.

Saidul's nephew Md Rumman was with him at the time of the attack, and was severely wounded. He was taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.

A witness, seeking anonymity, said Saidul was on his way to Nachanmahal Bazar with his nephew Rumman on Saturday at 2pm. A group of men blocked Saidul's path while he crossing Nachanmahal Bazar Bridge.

The miscreants brutally hacked him to the death and left his nephew severely wounded.

A source said miscreants shot college student Sajal, from Kamdevpur village in Mollarhat Union, in 2016. Saidul was arrested in connection with the murder and informed the police that Union Parishad Chairman Kabir Hossain was involved in the incident.

Locals claimed the murder was an act of retaliation, and Saidul was involved in many criminal activities.

OC Shakhawat said: ''I do not know whether there is a case against Saidul or not, or if he had any past enmity with Kabir Hossain before my joining Nalchity police station. Kabir Hossain was brought to the police station for interrogation.''

Locals also said multiple cases had been filed against Saidul and he was out on bail from the High Court for a case regarding the murder of his brother-in-law Saidur Rahman.
