Six people, including two Rohingyas, have been killed in separate "gunfights" with law enforcement in Cox's Bazar, Dhaka and Gazipur.

The “gunfights” took place early on Wednesday.

In Cox’s Bazar, two Rohingyas were killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), in Kharangkhali area under Teknaf upazila, around 4:30am.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf BGB 2 Battalion acting commander Shariful Islam Jomadder said: “A patrol team encountered two Rohingyas while they were trying to trespass into Bangladesh's territory, from Myanmar, through the Kharangkhali-Naf River border.”

“The trespassers opened fire on the BGB team when they tried to stop the Rohingyas from entering the territory.”

In retaliation, BGB officials fired back, leaving the Rohingyas dead.

He said: “Some 190,000 yaba pills were recovered from the spot.”

BGB sources added that identities of those deceased have not yet been determined. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

A case will be filed in this regard, the BGB official said.

In another incident, two suspected pirates were killed in a “gunfight” with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in Mognama area under Pekua upazila, around 5am.

RAB recovered eight firearms and 26 bullets from the spot.

RAB 15 Cox's Bazar Head Office Company Major Mehedi Hasan told the Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tip-off, one of our teams conducted a drive in the area.”

He said: “Upon seeing us, the pirates opened fire on us and tried to escape the scene. We fired back in self-defence.

"We recovered two bodies, arms, and ammunition from the spot."

He added: "The bodies have been handed over to Pekua police station. We are trying to identify the suspects.”

In Dhaka, a fugitive criminal from Narsingdi was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB in West Matikata, Dhaka.

The deceased, Shafiqul, 30, was wanted in a number of cases, including for murder, reports UNB.

RAB 11 Commanding Officer Lt Col Kazi Shomsher Uddin said: "Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided the attic of a high-rise building around 11:40pm on Tuesday.

“Shafiqul and his two associates opened fire on the team as soon as they reached the spot.”

In retaliation, RAB officials fired back, leaving Shafiqul injured.

Later, Shafiqul was declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Meanwhile, a RAB member was injured in the “gunfight.” He is being treated at DMCH.

The RAB official said two of Shafiqul’s associates—Faurk and Pradeep—were also detained in the raid.

The elite force recovered three firearms and a few bullets from the spot.
