Suspected drug trader killed in Khulna ‘turf war'

A drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with a rival gang in Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district.

Asaduzzaman Mithun Killu, 25—son of Hasan Sheikh of Sachibunia School area—was killed in the “gunfight” around 3:30am on Thursday.

Police said Asaduzzaman was accused in several cases filed under the Narcotics Act.

Police seized: a shutter gun, one round of bullets, two rounds of bullet shells, and some blasted improvised bombs from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Batiaghata police station Rabiul Kabir said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area and rescued Asaduzzaman.

He said four-to-five drug dealers had locked in the “gunfight” among themselves. 

“They fled the scene when police reached the area,” he added.

Later, Asaduzzaman was declared dead when taken to Batiaghata Upazila Health Complex.”
