Police have arrested a local United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) coordinator with fireams, after conducting a raid at Baghaichari upazila's Machalang area on Tuesday.
Joy Chakma was arrested in connection with the March 18 ambush which killed seven, including two election officials and four Ansar and VDP members, in the district's Baghaichari area.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sajek police station in Baghaichari, confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune.
Joy was the main UPDF coordinator in Baghaighat area and has several murder allegations against him, he added.
The OC further said a .22 rifle and three rounds of ammunition were also recovered from his possession.
In the gun attack on March 18, two polling officials, four Ansar members, and a candidate’s agent were killed, while 29 others were injured.
A seven-member probe committee was later formed to uncover the motive behind armed assault.
