The sick have been admitted to multiple local hospitals
An ammonia gas leak from a frozen food warehouse has affected 14 people in Rupsha upazila of Khulna.
The leak occurred on Sunday around 7pm in Atlas Seafood Ltd in West Rupsha. The people who fell ill from inhaling the gas were residents of the neighbourhood behind the establishment; no one from Atlas Seafood was affected.
Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defence Abul Hossain confirmed the incident.
Shortly after the leak was reported, five units of Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
The sick have been admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, Insaf Nursing Home And Diagonstics and Khulna Islami Bank Hospital.
Khulna Medical College Hospital’s Emergency Medical Officer Md Alamgir Kabir said: “Nine people are admitted here. They are having breathing complications.”
Manager of Insaf Nursing Home and Diagnostics Harun ar-Rashid said: “We gave the patients basic support here. Then we transferred them to a government hospital.”
