One confesses to killing Bogra BNP leader Shaheen

People not safe anywhere, says Fakhrul

Police have unearthed the mystery behind the murder of BNP’s Bogra sadar upazila unit General Secretary, Mahbub Alam Shaheen.

law enforcement arrested two people in connection with the murder, and seized the motorcycle used in the murder, said Bogra Superintendent of Police, Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, on Thursday.

One of the detainees, Payal Sheikh, gavea  confessional statement under section 164 before Judicial Magistrate Billah Hossain on Thursday evening, he said.

The same court gave a five-day remand to Russell, another detainee, for interrogation.

On April 14, some miscreants attacked Shaheen with sharp weapons on the main street in front of the Nishindara Housing Estate in town.

Following the attack, bystanders took him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

In the confessional statement, Payel disclosed that a total of nine people were involved in the murder.

On April 16, Aktar Jahan Shilpi, wife of Shahin, filed a case with Sadar Police Station, against six identified and five unidentified people.

Inspector Amber Hossain, investigation officer in the case, said Payal confessed to police that they killed Shaheen, a Transport Owners’ Association leader, over a dispute regarding the leadership of the association.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, said on Thursday that people are no longer safe anywhere in the country as the-law-and order situation has seriously deteriorated.

Fakhrul made the remarks talking to reporters after visiting Shaheen’s house around 11am.

He said Shaheen’s murder has  once again demonstrated that the government has lost control of law and order.

He assured the deceased's family members that their party and its leaders and activists will always be by their side and extend all-out cooperation to them.
