1 jailed, 2 fined for sexual harassment

A mobile court has sentenced one youth with seven days of imprisonment, and fined two of his accomplices for sexually harassing a schoolgirl on Tuesday.

The accused, Md Zakaria, 20, of Srirampur village in Dumki upazila was sentenced with imprisonment while Jewel, 19, and Belal Hossain, 18, of the same area, both received a Tk5,000 fine.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shangkar Kumar Biswas, also the judge of the mobile court, confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune, adding the verdict was delivered on Tuesday noon.

The Principal of Srirampur high school, Forkan Ahmed said: "Zakaria, Jewel and Belal were harassing some school students for the past few days from a teashop near the school. We informed the police while they were harassing a tenth grader on Tuesday morning.”

Police arrived at the scene afterwards and detained the three youths, who were later brought before a mobile court."
