Miscreants have desecrated idols of two Hindu temples in the Madaripur Sadar upazila.
The incident occurred in the Mostafapur and Kundubari areas in the Sadar upazila during the early hours of Friday.
According to local temple committee members and police, the two temples of teh Hindu goddess Kali were under construction.
Members of the local temple committee and locals were in a meeting at the temple premises till around 12am on Thursday discussing the development work for the temples.
On Friday morning, locals found the Radha Govinda and Kali temples in Mostafapur and Kali Temple in Kundubari with idols desecrated.
The miscreants also took away money, electric lamps and a sharp boti (a cutting instrument used in the kitchen) from the temples.
Ram Gopal Sarkar, president of the Radha Govinda and Kali temple in Mostafapur said: "Our temple was established more than hundred years ago. No such incident ever occurred here till today.
“After this incident, anger grew among the local Hindu community. We want justice for those who have done this.”
Ganesh Kundu, president of the Kundubari Kali Temple said: "We are working on the construction of the temple. We did not see who did this heinous work.
“We think miscreants attacked the temple in the early hours of Friday.”
Madaripur Sadar police station OC Sirajul Haque Sarder said: “I visited the site on hearing the news of desecration of idols in the two temples.
“Whoever caused such incidents is still unknown. The temple committee have not even been able to give a suspect's name.
“Police will seriously investigate and take action against the miscreants.”
In addition, additional police have already been deployed in the area, added the OC.
