11 killed in road accidents in 5 districts

The accidents took place on Wednesday

At least 11 people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in five districts - Chandpur, Noakhali Bandarban, Naogaon, and Jamalpur, on Wednesday.

In Chandpur, two men were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a sand-laden truck in Bagra Bazar area of the Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The CNG driver Rafiq Gazi, 40 and his passenger Mozammel, 23, died on the spot.

Police seized the truck but the truck driver fled the scene.

Chandpur Model police station OC Nasim Uddin said: "We are planning to file a case against the truck driver and his assistant."

"The bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families after primary investigation," he added.

In Noakhali, three people were killed and 15 injured when a bus lost control and fell into a ditch on the Sonapur-Ramganj road in the Porkot union of the Chatkhil upazila on Wednesday around 9:45am.

The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be determined. The injured were taken to different local hospitals for treatment.

Chatkhil police station OC Anwarul Islam said: “A Lakshmipur-bound Janani Service bus fell into the ditch when the driver lost control of the steering, leaving three people dead on the spot, and many injured.”

In Bandarban, three people were killed and five others injured when a three-wheeler collided head-on with a mini truck in the Fashiakhali area under the Lama upazila on Wednesday around 3pm.

The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be determined. The injured were taken to several hospitals in the Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

In Naogaon, two men on a motorcycle died after colliding head-on with a truck near the Shibpur bazar of the Patnitala upazila on Wednesday around 2:30pm.

The deceased Sohel Rana, 30, and Roton, 28, died on the spot.

Upon information, police arrived on the scene and recovered the dead bodies.

In Jamalpur, a teenager died after being run over by a brick-laden tractor on the Bokshiganj-Shanandabari road in the Bokshiganj upazila on Wednesday around 3pm.

The deceased Mamun Mia, 16, the driver’s assistant died instantly.

Bokshiganj police station OC AKM Mahbub Alam said: “The truck lost control and hit a tree, during which Mamun was also run over.”
