RAB 2 Commanding Officer Ashraf confirmed the matter
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a sacked policeman posing as police personnel with 10,100 yaba pills.
The man clad in a uniform with assistant sub-inspector badge, identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, was arrested from Motijheel’s Arambagh area in Dhaka around 10pm on Tuesday.
RAB 2 Commanding Officer Ashraf confirmed the matter at a press briefing on Wednesday at 12pm.
Acting on a tip-off, team of RAB 2 took position in Arambagh bus stand and conducted a search on a Desh Travel bus which arrived from Cox’s Bazar.
At the time, Mahfuz was spotted by the RAB team.
When a RAB official asked him to produce his ID card, the team found two ID cards and suspected him. Mahfuz also challenged the official at the time. Later, RAB recovered 10,100 yaba pills and Tk31,800 in cash from his possession, he added.
The official also said that after primary interrogation, RAB found out that Mahfuz is a fired police officer. He joined the Bangladesh Police in 2011 and was working with the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP). Since he was involved in a serious crime, he was sent to jail and was discharged from his service.
He was involved in drug trade after leaving jail. He brought a large number of yaba pills 2 to 3 times a month from Cox's Bazar and it sold in Khulna. Several criminal cases were filed against him in Khulna, he added.
The RAB official said that legal action will be taken against him.
“We are also investigating the involvement of another individual in connection to Mahfuz’s case,” he said.
