Chandpur Police arrested two men in a case filed for the reported rape of a teen-ager on multiple occasions.
A Union Parishad (UP) member was also arrested for deciding in an arbitration, to marry off the girl to one of her rapists.
The arrested are Emran Hossain, 21, Arefin alias Aminul, 20, and UP member Ohidul Islam, 60.
Two other rape suspects, Rabbi, 19, and Meraj, 20, and three members who conducted the arbitration in Hajiganj upazila are still on the run, confirmed OC Alamgir Hossain of Hajiganj police station.
OC Alamgir said: "Police arrested two suspects and the UP member when the girl filed a case against six people on Friday night.
"The arrested were produced in court on Saturday. Police are trying to arrest the remaining accused."
On Thursday, a council of four, including the UP member, in a meeting fined the rape suspects over Tk5 lakhs and decided to use that money to arrange a marriage ceremony for the survivor.
Police intervened and helped the girl file a case after the news made it to the media.
According to locals, the fatherless girl comes from a poverty stricken family. She was taken advantage of by these men who raped her on multiple occasions. Recently she disclosed the matter when she became pregnant.
