Chapainawabganj road accident kills 3, injures 8

10 to 12 paddy field workers were returning home after work in a nasimon

Three workers have been killed and eight were injured in a road accident when a locally made three-wheel nosimon overturned and fell into a roadside ditch in Chapainawabganj.

The accident occurred in Pirason area of Gomostapur upazila around 10:30pm on Tuesday night.

The deceased are: Shahidul Islam, 18, Rakib Hossain, 32, and Mozaffar Hossain, 62. Among the injured are: Mukim, Pearul, Rabu, Dulal, Omar, Aminul, Mannan, and Saddam. 

All are paddy field workers hailed from Dhobra village of Shahbajpur union in Shibganj upazila. They have all been taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Gomostapur Upazila Health Complex.

Gomostapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin said: “After working in the paddy field in Varendra region, some 10 to 12 workers were returning to Shibganj by a nasimon – which was laden with huge sacks of paddy – when the accident occurred.”

“Upon information, two teams from Gomostapur Fire Service and police station arrived at the scene, where they found one worker dead on the spot. Two others were declared dead by duty doctors when the injured workers were taken to the hospitals,” he added.
