BSTI revokes CM licence of 2 more products

The licences of 25 other products have been suspended

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has revoked the Certification Marks (CM) licence of two more food products out of the 52 that have been identified as substandard.

It also suspended the licence of 25 other products. The institution slapped a deadline of 24 hours for the products to be withdrawn from the market, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

The licences of Pure Hathazari Maricher Gura of SS Consumer Products (Chittagong) and Kiran Lachchha Seemai of M/S Kiran Products (Naogaon) were cancelled.

Earlier, the government regulatory body cancelled the licence of 18 products and suspended the licence of seven other products on Wednesday.

The High Court recently ordered the 52 products, found to be of substandard quality in a test conducted by the BSTI, to be recalled from the market.

The press release, signed by CM Director SM Ishaq Ali, said out of the 406 samples collected from the market, 52 were found to be of poor quality. 

Producers, suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers are prohibited from producing, distributing, preserving and promoting these products until they meet the BSTI standards.

"Without re-approval, these products will not be allowed to market," the CM director said in the press release. 

None of the brands that have lost their CM licences are well-known, but some of the suspended brands are.

The products with suspended licences are: Ghee of Baghabari Special Ghee, Dhaka; Semolina of Nishita Foods, Sylhet; turmeric powder of Manjil Foods and Products, Sylhet; honey of Green Lands Milk Products, Khulna; turmeric powder of Shan Food, Kushtia; salt of Madhumati Salt Industries, Khulna; vermicelli of Jedda Food Industries, Jhalakathi; salt of Noor Salt Industries, Jhalakathi; vermicelli (LacchaSemai) of Amrita Food Products, Barisal; salt of New Jhalakathi Salt Mills, Jhalakathi; salt of Quality Salt Industries, Jhalakathi; salt of Lucky Salt Industries, Jhalakathi; salt of Taj Salt Industries, Jhalakathi; chili powder of Kashem Traders, Rajshahi; turmeric powder of Kashem traders, Rajshahi; chili powder of Amirul Traders, Rajshahi; vermicelli of Madhuful and Products, Sylhet; vermicelli of Mithai Sweets, Chittagong; flour of KR Food Industries, Chittagong; vermicelli of Well Food and Beverage, Chittagong; fermented milk of Rupsa Food Products, Chittagong; biscuit of Imtiaz Bread and Food Products, Chittagong; vermicelli of Misti Mela Food products, Chittagong; chanachur of Taiyeba Food Products, Chittagong; and vermicelli of Madhuban Bread and Biscuit, Chittagong.
