Passengers Rights Protection Forum (PRPF) formed a human chain demanding of the arrest of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus counter ejectors in the Chashara area of Narayanganj.
The human chain was held in front of the Narayanganj Press Club in the Chashara area around 11:30am on Monday. Making BRTC fare Tk30 and the introduction of Non-AC bus service were also in their demand.
Convener of the PRPF, Rafiur Rabbi in the human chain said, BRTC is a public transport organization but for two years they did not provide any service in Narayanganj. When the BRTC bus service re-started in the area after two years, racketeers and extortionists attacked the bus counter.
There are plans to stop the BRTC bus service in Narayanganj. Local transport extortionists are in cahoots with the transportation owners restrain BRTC buses in plying Narayanganj. It was also seen that those involved in the attack on the BRTC bus counter were not arrested, the PRPF President added.
Narayanganj District Citizen Committee President AB Siddiqui, Bangladesh Socialist Party Narayanganj district President Nikhil Das, Communist Party of Bangladesh Narayanganj district President Hafizur Rahman, and many others spoke at the program.
On Wednesday last, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated 15 BRTC air conditioned buses on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route.
But on Friday, the BRTC's temporary bus Counter that was placed in Chashara, was attacked by the local extortionists.
