Current OC of Sonagazi police station Main Uddin said Moazzem’s phone number is also under surveillance to trace his whereabouts
A team from Feni police is currently in Dhaka to arrest the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonagazi police station Moazzem Hossain, who still remains at large.
They have already assigned surveillance teams at probable locations where he might show up; his ancestral home in Jessore, as well as his residence in Comilla have also been searched thoroughly.
Current OC of Sonagazi police station Main Uddin said Moazzem’s phone number is also under surveillance to trace his whereabouts.
He also added the phone numbers of the former OC’s relatives are also being tapped, so that they could get a lead on his location, mentioning the go-ahead for his arrest was conveyed from higher officials recently.
Belalur Rahman, communications officer at Police Headquarters, said the main task of arresting Moazzem has been given to Sonagazi police station, while other teams have also been dispatched to assist them.
On April 16, Dhaka Cybercrime Tribunal issued the arrest warrant against Moazzem for recording the statement of the victim on video, and spreading it on social media.
The OC has been absconding since then.
Nusrat, 18, who was an Alim examinee, was set on fire by Sirajuddaula’s followers on April 6 for refusing to withdraw the rape attempt case that her family had filed against him. She died from the injuries four days later.
According to the case details, the victim went to the Sonagazi Model police station to file a case against Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal Sirajuddaula on March 27 for sexually assaulting her the day before.
Moazzem recorded a video of her statement without her consent, while asking her offensive, and insulting questions. The video then emerged on various social media platforms. It was alleged that Moazzem had put up the video.
