Transparency International Bangladesh has urged the authorities to complete the investigation centring around an exchange of bribe between Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Khandaker Enamul Basir and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman, and ensure their punishment.
“Both the parties involved in the bribe exchange are equally responsible,” said TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman in a media statement on Tuesday.
While the ACC cannot avoid responsibility for an official by claiming that it cannot be responsible for an individual, it is surprising to see how DIG Mizanur Rahman, who is currently being investigated by the ACC, remains in his current post even after publicly admitting to bribing someone to get released from an allegation of amassing illegal wealth, read the statement quoting the TIB chief.
TIB has urged both the ACC and police authorities to take effective steps to ensure legal action against both, so that the authorities can regain people's trust.
