In Narayanganj, a bus driver was arrested Monday night after he attempted to rape a passenger onboard.
The incident took place near Meghna New Town in the Sonargaon upazila around 10:30pm on Monday.
Sonargaon police station OC Moniruzzaman said: “The woman was the only passenger on a Swadesh Service bus from Dhaka to Munshiganj when the driver, Shamim Mia, decided to rape her. However, passengers waiting at the bus stop heard screams, rapidly boarded the bus, and caught him red-handed.
Shamim Mia was handed over to Sonargaon police, and the bus was impounded.
The woman was rescued and she filed a case in this connection on Tuesday afternoon with the police station, added the OC.
In another incident, police arrested a man named Robiul Islam, 24, from Narayanganj-Dhaka link road on Tuesday for raping a girl.
Narayanganj Sadar Model police station OC Kamrul Islam said: “The accused shaved his head in order to avoid arrest.”
The girl filed a case accusing three people on Monday, which stated, the girl from Chittagong having an affair with Robiul had come to visit him. Robiul took this opportunity and raped her. When she sought police help, Sadar Model police station Sub-Inspector Saiful disregarded her case.
In Khagrachhari, three teenagers were arrested on Monday night from the Sadar upazila for allegedly gang-raping a teen.
The suspects - Al Amin, 17, Jahidul, 16, and Aminul Islam, 18 - have long been harassing the victim, her family said.
Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station's in-charge Shahdat Hossain Tito said that the girl filed a case against the trio, reports UNB.
According to the case statement, they raped the 18-year-old girl when she was grazing goats in a forest near her house on Monday noon.
The victim was admitted to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital on Tuesday morning.
In Chapainawabganj, police arrested a man for attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl in the Sadar upazila.
The arrested, Selim Reja, 45, was a drug addict, said police.
Chapainawabganj Sadar Model police station OC Ziaur Rahman said: “On Monday night, the child went to a mango grove beside her home to pick mangoes. A local named Selim attempted to rape her there.
“Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the area, rescued her, captured Selim and handed him over to the police.”
The girl was taken to a medical facility for treatment and soon a case will be filed in this connection, added the OC.
In Netrokona, a differently-abled 20-year-old girl was gang-raped in the Goradoba union of the Kendua upazila on Monday.
Police arrested Kazal, 40, Humayun, 25, and Jamrul, 28 from the scene of crime.
According to locals and police sources, the girl, on her way back from her grandmother’s house, was abducted by four men who gang-raped her in a cow shed. Hearing her screams, locals rescued the girl and called the police.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kendua Circle) Mahmudul Hasan and Kendua police station OC Md Rasheduzzaman rushed to the scene and made the arrest.
The girl was taken to a local medical facility on Tuesday morning, and a case will soon be filed, said OC Rasheduzzaman.
In Barisal, police arrested and sent four men to jail following a court order on Tuesday for stalking a schoolgirl and injuring her family members.
The arrested Ashikur Rahman Molla alias Laden, his father Altaf Molla, Anis Molla and Arif Molla used to harass the girl on the streets.
Agailjhara police station OC Afzal Hossain OC said: “The girl’s uncle lodged a complaint, which stated, after the girl rejected romantic advances by Ashik, he attacked her family members, as they wanted to confront the matter.”
In Madaripur, police reportedly assaulted a 12-year-old rape survivor and her family members in Kalkini upazila on Monday.
According to locals, on Sunday night, a local, Rajib Khan, 20, took the girl to jute field nearby jute field and raped her. Locals hearing the teen’s screams rescued the girl and detained Rajib.
Being informed, police arrested Rajib but later released him. Instead of recording a case, the girl and her family members were taken to police investigation centre and physically assaulted.
Later, with the help of Madaripur Superintendent of Police, a case was filed with Kalkini police station over the rape on Monday night.
