Former Sonagazi police station Officer-in-Charge Moazzem Hossain has filed a petition with a Dhaka court seeking first-class division facilities as per the jail code.

Defense Counsel Masuma Aktar submitted the petition for her client with the court of Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain of Cyber Tribunal (Bangladesh) in Dhaka on Thursday.

Cyber Tribunal Bench Assistant Shamim-Al-Mamun confirmed filing of the plea and added that the court fixed June 24 for hearing on the petition.

It was mentioned in the petition that Moazzem Hossain received facilities as per the ninth grade of the national pay scale and therefore should be considered as a first-class citizen of the country and deserved the division in prison as per jail code.

Earlier on Monday, the court sent Moazzem to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a case filed for recording a video of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement and spreading it online.

The court also fixed June 30 for hearing on charge-farming against the police officer in the case.

Moazzem was arrested on June 16, some 20 days after a warrant was issued in a case filed against him under the Digital Security Act.

Previously on May 27, the tribunal issued arrest warrant against him a day after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted its probe report over the incident.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case on April 15 with Cyber Tribunal under section 26, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act.
