The suspects have confessed to the crime
Two suspects have been arrested in Jessore, by the Narail police, over the murder of Homeopathy College nightguard Md. Mannan.
The arrested duo are Md Biplob Sheikh, 19, son of Jessore's Bezpara's Charkhamba's Md. Jhontu; and Md Naimul Islam, 20, son of Abdul Jabbar of Ramnagar's Mollapara.
The convicts confessed, to the police, saying that they committed the crime. The police stated this on Wednesday, at a press conference at the Narail's police superintendent's office.
The murder occurred on June 9, around 12 pm, at the Chitra Bridge bypass area's Machimdiya Twin Oil Pump.
Quoting the suspects’ confessional statements, the police said: “The murderers disguised themselves as passengers, passed Jessore's Nawapara, and came to Narail. After coming to Narail, they rented nightguard Md. Mannan Sheikh's motorcycle and came to Rupgunj.”
The police continued: “After coming to Rupgunj, they did not go to their destination and instead, roamed around different places. At that time, driver Mannan became suspicious and informed some people he knew, about their behaviour, via mobile phone. Then, the murderers grew afraid of getting caught and killed Mannan – by stabbing him repeatedly.”
The police added: “When the locals came, after hearing Mannan’s screams, the miscreants were able to flee. Later, the locals informed the fire service, who transported him to the hospital, where the on-duty doctor pronounced Mannan dead.
A murder case was filed regarding the incident on June 10.
The late Mannan Sheikh is the son of the late Yakub Sheikh of the Sadar's Ballartop village.
He earned his living renting out motorcycle rides, alongside working as a night guard for the Narail Homeopathy College.
Narail's Police Superintendent Mohammad Jashimuddin PPM said, according to the duo’s confession, the murder weapon— knife—was found near Sultan bridge. The murderers were apprehended after their cell phones were tracked, with the help of the Jessore police.
