Debhata heated after Chhatra League-Jubo League clash, Section 144 imposed

Extra police have been deployed in different parts of the upazila to maintain law and order

Debhata upazila is heated after an internal clash between Chhatra League and Jubo League. 

The upazila administration has imposed Section 144 after incidents of attacks and counter-attacks on Wednesday.

Debhata Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Nirbahi Magistrate Iqbal Hossain said: "Section 144 has been imposed in the upazila. Extra police have been deployed at the Sakhipur intersection, Government Khanbahadur Ahsanullah College intersection, Parulia Shaheed Abu Raihan Square, and various other important points. 

"A slumber-like situation is prevalent in the upazila after the incident." 

When contacted for comment, Debhata police station Officer-in-Charge Biplab Kumar Saha said: "Section 144 has been imposed due to clashes between Chhatra League and Jubo League. Extra police have been deployed in the risky areas. 

"The law and order situation is normal at this time."

Due to internal conflicts, attacks and counter attacks took place at Government Khanbahadur Ahsanullah College, Sakhipur Mor and Parulia, following  disagreements between the two groups, which are affiliated to the ruling Awami League.

Upazila Chhatra League President Saiful Rahman Suman's father Shamsur Rahman Khokon, Government Khanbahadur Ahsanullah College Chhatra League President Md Faizullah, Organizing Secretary Asif, Chhatra League leader Rony Ahmed and others were injured in the incident. 

When this correspondent tried to contact Debhata upazila Jubo League President Mizanur Rahman Minnu for comments, he disconnected his phone on hearing that the caller is a journalist.

However, when Debhata Upazila Chhatra League President Saifur Rahman was contacted, the phone was picked up by a man named Sazib, who said: "Mr Rahman is busy. Call later."

District Chhatra League President Rezaul Islam Reza said: "The heated situation has been created due to disagreements between Jubo League President Mizanur Rahman Minnu and the Chhatra League. 

"We are trying to resolve the matter."
