Dulal Sharif, father of deceased Rifat Sharif, who was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of his wife, has sought the prime minister's intervention for the immediate arrest of the killers of his son, and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
He made the demand while attending a human chain formed by the people of Barguna in front of the Barguna Press Club, demanding justice for Rifat Sharif.
People of the area, from all walks of life, joined in the programmes, that started around 10am on Saturday.
Later they brought out a procession that paraded the main streets of the town.
Grief-stricken Dulal Sharif said: “After the death of fathers, their sons become orphans. Now, I have become an orphan by losing my only son.”
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the failure in arresting the accused, Rifat’s father demanded quick arrest of the killers.
"The terrorists have cut down my whole life, I have nothing left. How shall I live in the coming days?" he grieved.
He said with tears in his eyes: "I want to meet with the prime minister. The greatest achievement of my life will be to meet her. If I had a chance to talk to the prime minister, I would get a lot of peace.
"I will not be able to get my son back, but I want the execution of the brutal murderers," he said adding: "Although four days have passed, police could not arrest Nayan Bond, and Rifat Sharif. I request the administration to arrest, and prosecute my son's murderers as soon as possible."
Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by several people—in front of his wife Ayesha Siddiqua Minni—near Barguna Government College in Barguna town, in broad daylight, on Wednesday. The incident sparked mass outrage, and shock across the country.
Until now, police have arrested three suspects in connection with the case—accusing 12 people—which Rifat's father lodged with Barguna Sadar police station.
