Three women also sentenced to life imprisonment in a narcotics case
A Jhenaidah court has sentenced four men to life imprisonment in two cases filed on murder and explosive charges.
Judge MG Azam of Additional Sessions Judge Court 1 and 2, delivered the judgment on Sunday.
The convicted are Nazim Uddin, Asmat Ali, Tokkel Mandal, and Nazrul Islam Vutan.
According to case statements, the convicted four, members of East Bangla Communist party, were accused of killing Abdul Gani of Sadar Upazila, by an explosives blast on April 15, 2009.
For the two cases filed by the victim’s brother, the police submitted a charge sheet, and the court sentenced them to life in prison. The court also fined the convicts Tk5000 each.
They will have to spend an additional six months in jail if they fail to pay the fine.
Of the four, Tokkel and Vutan are on the run.
The same court on Sunday also sentenced three women to life in prison in a narcotics case.
The convicted are Amena Khatun, Rabeya Khatun, and Majida Khatun.
According to the case statement, the three women were arrested on July 25, 2013 on charges of smuggling Phensedyl.
Police filed a case on narcotics charges and submitted a charge sheet against them. The court sentenced them to life in prison and fined Tk2000 each.
They will have to spend an additional year in jail if they fail to pay the fine.
Rabeya and Amena are on the run.
