Indigenous Santal community yesterday observed the 164th anniversary of their historic Rebellion Day, commonly known as Santal Hool, in Dinajpur district town.
Bangladesh Krishak Federation, Krishani Shova, Bangladesh Adivasi Samity, Bhumihin Samity and Nagorik Uddyog jointly organized several programmes to mark the day.
Leaders of the organisations placed floral wreaths at the foot of the tomb of Murmu Brothers - Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav-- in Balubari Santal ground in the morning. Later, a procession was brought out form there which paraded important streets of the district town.

The program was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Krishak Federation president Badrul Alam, general secretary Zaed Iqbal Khan, Krishani Shova leader Sabina Yeasmin, Nagorik Uddyog central member Mahabub Hossain and Bangladesh Krishak Federation Dinajpur district unit president Tarok Kabiraj.
The was also observed in Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon district yesterday.
Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, a platform for the indigenous people, arranged a meeting in the upazila auditorium in the afternoon on the occasion.
