5 hurt in Keraniganj eviction drive

A group of miscreants has attacked a team of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) during an eviction drive in Keraniganj, injuring five, including an executive magistrate.

The BIWTA team, led by executive magistrate Mostafizur Rahman , launched the drive on Thursday morning, reports UNB.

When the team tried to evict a sand quarry at Postogola along the Buriganga riverbank, a group of people equipped with bamboo sticks attacked them, BIWTA Dhaka River Port Joint Director AKM Arif Uddin said.

A team of police arrested one of the miscreants – called Bappi – while the others fled, he said.

The drive will continue till 5 pm today.
