Locals are devastated over the dishonourable death of a freedom fighter
Police recovered a decomposing body of a lawyer, and freedom fighter—five days after he went missing—from the Lohajang River bank in Tangail town on Saturday afternoon.
Mia Md Hassan Ali Reza, 76, senior lawyer of Bar Association, was a freedom fighter, and a central committee member of Krishak Sramik Janata League.
Advocate Ali Reza, a resident of Sabalia area of Tangail went missing after he went out for a walk on Monday.
His family members had filed an abduction case against unidentified people on Tuesday.
Tangail Sadar Model police station OC Saidur Rahman said: “Locals informed police after spotting the body floating in the Lohajang River. His son Mahmudul Hasan Litu later identified the body.”
Upon investigation, police determined that Adv Ali was murdered, and then dumped into the river, the OC added.
Mahmudul Hasan Litu said: “My father fought, and survived the Liberation War. Now, I cannot accept the fact that he was murdered in the very land he fought to free.”
