‘Refrain from mob justice’

A press release from Bangladesh Police on July 20 stated, because of the spreading rumour earlier on Facebook that “human heads and blood are required to build the Padma Bridge,” there is high amount of surveillance throughout the country.

The press release signed by Assistant Inspector General of Police Headquarters (media) Sohel Rana said: “Spreading rumours is leading to unrest in the country, and mob killing is a criminal offence.”

The cases related to mob killings will be investigated diligently by the police, and people involved in such violence will be brought to justice.

The Bangladesh Police has further requested all citizens of the country to not spread rumours, and refrain from doling out mob justice.
