Police are investigating the matter
A minor boy has been injured when an unidentified miscreant broke into his house in Panchagarh.
The miscreant hacked off a finger from seven-year old Afridi's hand around 10:30pm Wednesday.
Quoting family members, police said a intruder had entered the children's room, where Afridi and his brother Arafat, 3, slept while their mother Ratna was in an adjacent room.
Hearing their screams, Ratna rushed to the room and found Afridi bleeding. The child said a man hit him with a sharp weapon and he lost his finger. He also said the assailant fled after the attack.
The child was taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, and later to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Afridi's father Jahangir Alam said: "We have no known enemies. The assailant must have been a common thief or a kidnapper."
However, the motive remained unclear.
Panchagarh sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Akkas Ahmed told Dhaka Tribune that the police are investigating the incident. But they have found no reason to believe that it was an attempted kidnapping.
